It's a good idea to separate note data from automation data. To accomplish this, use more than one sequencer track for a given machine, and put note data in patterns different from automation patterns. Remember: The leftmost sequencer track of a given machine is the one that receives your recorded automations!

Always keep your CPU meter open to spot misbehaving machines. Turn on Debug Mode to avoid problems with machines that don't know how to turn themselves off properly. If you get a CPU burst (CPU usage of an individual machine rises to 60-90%), turn off the machine by muting it in the Machine View.
